Here, we ask Interior Stylist Jackie Brown for her tips to making the most of pastels in your home.

What kind of environment does pastel create in the home?

Incorporating pastel colours into your home’s design can seriously up the relaxation factor, especially when those pastels are soft and dusty. On the flip side, when used boldly and en mass, pastels can add an element of whimsical drama to a room.

Who is it suited to?

Gone are the days when pastels were reserved for nurseries and kids rooms. Pastels can work well in most rooms, in most homes. When used lavishly, they are great for people who want to add playful drama. Used more sparingly, they are perfectly suited to those people who want to introduce colour into a space without overwhelming it.

What are your top tips for introducing pastel into the home?

1. In a relatively neutral interior, choose one statement hero piece in your fave pastel colour, like one of our Armchairs or Velvet Sofas.

2. If you aren’t feeling that brave start with some decorator items. Cushions, vases, small ornaments are an inexpensive way to add softness and can be changed up frequently without blowing your budget. 

3. Introduce art to your walls that has a pastel pop.

4. Paint or wallpaper is a great way to up the ante when decorating with pastels. Be playful and research some fun techniques you can use to get different effects.

How do we ensure a 'stylish' and not 'sugary' result?
