Six quickfire questions with Genevra Vanderzeil - Stylist and author of “Home Is Where You Make It”

Geneva Vanderzeil is a published author, stylist, maker and photographer.  Way back in 2008 she started her first blog called “A Pair And A Spare” which quickly became one of the most popular websites in the world, with millions of readers, and numerous features in newspapers and magazines.

She’s also editor of Collective Gen - a community for women who make things - their style, their homes and their lives.  Lounge Lovers has long admired Geneva's creative flair, her helpful tips and advice on how to make a home, and her enviable way of taking a space, no matter how perfect or imperfect, and turning it into a home.  So if you’re not following Geneva’s social media platforms currently, we suggest you do so.

It’s now been over two years since we last featured Geneva on our blog (you can read our first interview here)  so with the launch of our RATTAN RENAISSANCE collection, and Geneva's ongoing appreciation of our rattan pieces like the Tara sideboard - which you can see here in our RATTAN RENAISSANCE: 5 RATTAN DECORATING IDEAS FOR YOUR HOME BLOG, we thought it high time we spoke with her again.

Geneva we know many of our followers are huge fans of yours, but tell us how you would describe your home & style to someone who isn’t familiar with your blog?

I have an eclectic style that's all about finding balance in a space. I like to mix various eras and decor styles to give a space detail, but...I'm always looking for balance!

Tell us what is it about rattan that you think people are drawn to?

I think rattan brings a softness to a space, and it has a vintage feel that works well with all the different types of other furniture styles.

It’s really the perfect piece to mix into your home!

What are a few tips can you share with us - to style rattan pieces into your home well, while keeping it contemporary and on trend?

I like to focus on one or two really great quality pieces that speak volumes, and pack a punch in a space, and then I’ll add in more simple lines and other decor styles to the mix.

If you were to advise a customer to purchase furniture to compliment the Tara collection, what would that piece be?

I adore the Hampton sofa - and I think it would look amazing paired back with the Tara collection. The clean lines of this sofa really compliment the detail of the rattan.

What do you think the next big trend in furniture will be?

Well for me, it's all about colour and shapes, and bringing a lot of your own personality to a space!

Lastly Geneva - we know you’re busy juggling lots of balls like so many of our readers, what is it that you do to unwind, and relax in your spare time?

I love to curl up on my sofa - with a cup of hot tea and a good book!
