Trend Alert: Coastal Getaway
Australians have an innate connection to the coast. Whether it’s the shores of Bondi or the sands of Bali, we’re constantly seeking the sun, sand, and surf — and in fact, our very own Cairns was voted as the top travel destination for Aussies in 2021.
With so many of us craving a coastal escape, it’s no surprise that resort-style living is one of the hottest trends for 2022. Discover how to channel holiday vibes in your own home this summer, while keeping it functional, fresh and modern.
Embrace the shades of summer
We all need a healthy dose of optimism in our homes, especially after the past two years. And the best way to achieve this is, without a doubt, through colour.
Colours have a powerful effect on our mood, as well as the look and feel of a room. Research shows that shades like red, yellow and orange evoke feelings of warmth and excitement — giving us a much-needed energy boost throughout the day.
This season, ditch the bland and play around with vibrant colourways throughout your home. In our showrooms, we use Taubmans’ Lightning Bright and Papaya Soap to add a spritz of energy to shared areas, such as the living room and the office.
Of course, it wouldn’t be coastal style without a call back to the ocean — our designers adore light blue hues, like Taubmans’ Heaven on Earth.
Orange you glad: Bold and beautiful, the Chloe Swivel Chair in Jade Olive is a must-have for any coastal-inspired home. With its soft velvet texture and bold colour, this accent chair is the perfect escape from the daily grind.
Make your sofa the centrepiece
Coastal escapes are about lounging around and enjoying a slower pace of life — and what better place to do that than on the sofa? The sofa is the centrepiece in any modern coastal masterpiece, so it makes sense to splurge on seating that’s as comfortable as it is stylish.
Stick to a white or cream sofa (with removable covers!), then bring colour into the living room with vibrant cushions and throws. For the ultimate flexibility, choose a modular sofa that can be moved around for different purposes, such as when you’re relaxing with the family or when entertaining with friends.
Coastal haven: The Haven sofa is made for coastal homes. With multiple seating configurations, the Haven goes with the flow at all times, whether you need a corner lounge or additional seating for guests.
Style a sanctuary with mother of pearl inlay and rattan
Mother of Pearl inlay and rattan have been the darlings of the design world over the past few years, and it was only a matter of time before these two materials came together. Gorgeous and a touch unexpected, this duo pairs together incredibly well in a coastal space. The intricate detailing on mother of pearl inlay furniture is reminiscent of the glimmer of seashells, while rattan infuses the room with a natural vibe.
The best way to combine these two textures in a room is to give them space to shine. Choose gold or ivory inlay pieces that complement rattan’s natural good looks, like the Portia Mother of Pearl Inlay Dresser, and keep the colour palette grounded in neutrals and whites.
Modern coastal classic: Add coastal charm into your bedroom with the Tara Rattan Bed Frame and matching Tara 1-Drawer Bedside Table. Each piece has been artfully handwoven to produce a product brimming with eco-friendly, earthy charm.
Elevate your entertaining with marble
Looking to add a touch of glamour to your home? Marble is the ideal host for intimate dinners, lavish parties, family meals, and everything in between. This gorgeous stone instantly transforms any room into a luxe space with its unique pattern and striking appearance.
Keep the look laid-back and on-trend by opting for a marble dining table with natural oak legs, such as the Bronte. Finish it off with timber seating, or go for synthetic rattan if you’d prefer versatile chairs that work for indoor and alfresco dining.
Parisian style: The epitome of French alfresco dining, the Paris Low Stool in White is dressed to impress in all weather conditions with its bamboo effect powder-coated aluminium frame and synthetic PE rattan. Plus, these seats are stackable for easy storage when not in use.
Surf waves of productivity in the home office
A workstation is a staple in most homes these days. While we might not be able to spend every day working by the beach, we can (and should) bring a spark of seaside inspiration to our home offices.
The easiest way to do this is to pair a timber desk with a white chair, and bring in the trending colours of the season through accessories — think an orange vase or a teal notebook. Then, top it all off with a fabulous indoor palm plant, such as a Chinese fan palm or yucca.
Space-saving style: Whether it’s the Cameo Console Table or the Cameo Desk, this piece certainly deserves a cameo in your coastal escape. Stylish and studious, this sophisticated table can double down as a work desk and a side table if you’re tight on room.
